Long before he made fedoras and police anklets stylish on White Collar, Matt Bomer romanced Eliza Dushku on the Fox sci-fi series Tru Calling. But when White Collar creator and executive producer Jeff Eastin came calling for her to guest-star on the USA series, Dushku knew she wanted to channel another, very famous, on-screen couple for their reunion.

“I wanted a Mr. & Mrs. Smith vibe,” Dushku tells TVGuide.com. “[I said] I’d love to come and be on it, but only if it’s something that’s really special and only if Raquel and Neal really have a Mr. & Mrs. Smith dance going on. It could be sexual at times, it could be violent and scary at times, but as long as it’s intense, and he really responded to that.”

Judging from the previews for Tuesday’s episode, airing at 9/8c on USA, the message was definitely received. Neal will find sparks with Dushku’s character, an Egyptologist named Raquel who has connections to his sworn enemy, Matthew Keller (Ross McCall). Thanks to his charm and bad-boy appeal, love interests come and go fairly regularly for the con man turned criminal informant, but Dushku is confident her character’s connection is “a little bit deeper” compared to Neal’s many other admirers.

“What was interesting to me was that she was almost the female version of him,” Dushku says. “I just think it’s sort of an irresistible sort of connection where they are so much alike and they are both just extremely charged and primed for each other, even if they weren’t expecting it.”

Behind the scenes, Dushku says the offer to guest-star on White Collar was hard to resist. After receiving Christmas cards from Bomer for years (“I wish I could be that organized,” she says with a laugh), Eastin took matters into his own hands in May when he urged White Collar fans to tweet at the actress that they wanted to see her on the show. Dushku’s boyfriend bumped into Eastin soon after and she knew the timing was right.

On top of being a fan of the show, Dushku said she was excited for her and Bomer to pick up where they left off. “As actors, because we have this past and this friendship, we were really able to turn on that extra layer and level of intimacy and of real connection,” she says. “During one scene where we share a little moment in my loft when we’re looking around at these various items, there were a couple takes where it got hot. They called cut and Matt would run up and go, ‘Did you feel that?!’”

Bomer also surprised Dushku off-camera. “I was really impressed by Matt. I knew him when, and now he has this huge hit and he’s on every single billboard and taxicab and bus in New York City and the guy is just as humble, if not more so, than he ever has been,” she says. “I was a little nervous because I’ve seen the way that fame can start to turn people into being less than classy. That was not the case with him.”

Aside from re-uniting with Bomer, Dushku says she enjoys guest-starring roles on series (such as her 2010 appearance on The Big Bang Theory) because they allow to her focus on her other job — producer. Dushku, who runs a production company with her brother, has moved behind the camera since Buffy creator Joss Whedon encouraged her and helped her become a producer on their most recent collaboration, the short-lived series Dollhouse. “These kind of guest-starring roles allow me to do both,” she says.

Does that mean Dushku may return to White Collar?

“We just have to see what kind of arc they have in mind,” she says. “It’s definitely a pretty exciting stand-alone episode, but the door is open and we’ll see what they have in mind.”

This Tuesday on White Collar (USA Network, 9/8c), Neal Caffrey’s pursuit of recurring nemesis Keller leads him to a crazy-sexy Egyptologist played by Whedonverse alumna Eliza Dushku. Given that Neal (Matt Bomer) is currently on the outs with Sara, how can sparks not fly? Rest assured that they do –and then some – as former Tru Calling costars Bomer and Dushku reunite for a frothy escapade. Dushku spoke with TVLine about rousing Neal’s naughty side, her and Bomer’s Tru recallings, and how she’d love to play slayer again.

TVLINE | How have you been describing your character?

Her name is Raquel LaRoque, which is a great name. Seriously, that was sort of cinched it right there. She’s an Egyptologist that Neal needs to get acquainted with in order to lead him closer to Keller (played by Ross McCall). Obviously Neal has a lot of ladies in his life — in various episodes, you have a guest star come in and he uses his charm to get what he wants — but he doesn’t always have a meaningful, personal connection to those people. So basically, I wanted her to be somebody that was Neal’s equal – someone who is just as ambitious and devoted to her job, intelligent, quick, manipulative if she has to be, and uses her sexuality if she has to.

TVLINE | She seems to have this old-style Hollywood glamor thing going on.

She does have this sort of ’40s femme fatale look and vibe, and I loved that. We had this one beautiful shot in a park, and there were these gas lamps behind us… Everything about it felt like a ’40s picture. I didn’t necessarily expect that going into such a contemporary and fresh show.

TVLINE | Would you say that Raquel is bit more from Neal’s world that Sara (Hilarie Burton) is? Is that why they click?

I don’t know if it’s that she’s more or less of something than Sara is — it was almost coincidental that in this episode they’ve maybe run their course — but it definitely was maybe time to add a little spice – not that Sara wasn’t spicy! But for Neal and the world he lives in, having a monogamous relationship doesn’t lend itself to the possibilities of a wild romp with a woman that sort of shares his makeup. I think also there was talk about fans feeling like in the second season maybe he had started to become a Fed through and through, and yet he has this naughty con man side — sometimes who you travel with can affect how you behave. So I think Raquel is brought in at a good time to promote some misbehaving!

TVLINE | Will Neal’s experience with Raquel be the ruin or salvation of his romance with Sara?

That remains to be seen…. [His time with Raquel] is poignant, and it makes him think, and it makes him wonder. But I’m not sure what goes on next.

TVLINE | Are Neal and Raquel sincerely interested in each other, or might one of them be playing the other?

That’s always the question. Neal may think he has it all figured out, but Raquel definitely has more to do – and people will definitely scream for that after Tuesday night!

TVLINE | So, they get physical? I mean, he looks like Matt Bomer, you look like you….

[Chuckles] We get physical, yeah…. Matt and I know each other of course from back in the day, so it as easier to step in and just cut to the chase and really make the characters connect and make some steam happen. With these Egyptian artifacts and antiquities, I was like, “Matt, we’re going to sexualize these scarabs.” After some of the takes, Matt would run over and go, “Oh my gosh, Eliza did you feel that? Something was happening there!” I was like, “Well, I meant to get you a little excited.” [Laughs]

TVLINE | Tell me about reuniting with Matt. Were there any jokes or topics from your Tru Calling days that came up?

There’s one big joke that’s constant, and that was Zach Galifianakis [who played Tru's friend/morgue supervisor Davis]. When we were making our show, not that many people knew who Zach was. He was just that castmate who is so ridiculously hilarious even when he’s not trying. But now that Zach has really blown out of the water and everybody knows him from The Hangover and everything else, Matt and I would sit around and remember all of that insanity. [During Tru Calling] Matt and Zach were like Dad and Drunk-and-Angry Stoner Stepdad to my one-year-old golden retriever. I remember my dog riding off in the basket of Zach’s orange bike, with a plume of smoke following him. [Laughs] Then Matt would take him for a less chaotic weekend.

TVLINE | If you were able to choose a past character to play for a bit longer of a stretch, which would you choose? Faith, Tru, Dollhouse‘s Echo…?

Oh, I don’t know…. I’ve always had a lot of questions about Faith, and why there wasn’t a spin-off. It was a conversation right as Buffy was coming to an end, but because Buffy was ending so strong and Angel was already on, it didn’t feel like that was the “leap of Faith” to take. I ended up choosing to do Tru Calling, but I do miss [Faith]. Her effect is so powerful, globally, how could I not? People to this day tell me the impression she made on them personally, so of course I want to give them some more of her at some point, if I ever can.

Eliza Dushku is making a trip to USA dramedy White Collar.

The actress, who starred in Fox’s Dollhouse, will appear in the ninth episode of the third season, creator Jeff Eastin revealed to The Hollywood Reporter.

But according to Eastin — who, along with Dushku, hinted at the team-up last Friday on Twitter — things aren’t going to be perfect in the White Collar world by the time she comes around.

[Spoiler alert!] Things are headed for trouble between con man Neal Caffrey, played by Matt Bomer, and new love interest Sara Ellis, played by Hilarie Burton, midway through the upcoming third season, which launches next Tuesday at 9 p.m.

Eastin told THR that when Dushku appears, it’s at “a point where Neal and Sara have broken up.”

And that’s not all. She’s playing someone “who’s obviously very sexy,” Eastin coyly told THR, adding that her character is working for Matthew Keller (Ross McCall).

Surely that’s not the whole story, right? “She ends up having a short fling with Neal,” he teased.

If things go White Collar’s way, Dushku’s appearance may not be a one-and-done. “We did it in such a way that if it works out, we could bring her back,” Eastin revealed.

Eastin wrote on Twitter before the long Memorial Day weekend: “@markgoffman and I are spending the weekend tailoring next week’s #WhiteCollar ep for @elizadushku . Wish us luck.”

The “Dollhouse” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” alum has been cast in the project inspired by ESPN personality Colin Cowherd.

Eliza Dushku will join Damon Wayans in CBS’ sports radio show, the network confirmed Wednesday.

The Dollhouse and Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum will play Casey, Nick’s (Wayans) female counterpart, in the multicamera comedy pilot set at a sports radio station.

“It is with insanest excitement & awesomeness I get to finally fill you guys in: I’ve just landed a new CBS comedy pilot w/ my comic idol Mr. Damon Wayans! Stay tuned, there is a serious happy dance occurring at the moment!” Dushku said in announcing the deal on her Facebook page.

Written and executive produced by Bill Martin and Mike Schiff (Grounded for Life), the sports radio pilot is inspired by ESPN personality Colin Cowherd, who will serve as a producer. Eric and Kim Tannenbaum (Running Wilde, Two and a Half Men) will also exec produce the project, which hails from CBS Television Studios in association with the Tannenbaum Co. Andy Cadiff will direct the pilot.

The actress late last year was cast in TNT’s pilot Bird Dog, which she dropped out of after less than a week.

She guest-starred on CBS’ The Big Bang Theory this season.

Eliza Dushku: All Dolled Up

Most probably remember actress Eliza Dushku as the ass-kicking, vampire slaying Faith on the long-running Joss Whedon hit, Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Though Dushku has retired her wooden stake, she has teamed up with Whedon once again for the new Fox series Dollhouse, a project she and Whedon created together. Dushku plays Echo, a member of a secret group nicknamed “actives” who have their identities programmed for specific assignments (fantasies, crimes etc.) and then have their memories wiped clean soon after.

The role is a welcome departure for Dushku who has typically been cast as a tough ball buster over the years. While the Boston native is still true to her roots, talking Sox and Celtics to our photographer during our shoot at the W Westwood, Dushku is happy to add a new dimension to her work as an actress and even to her career since she is also a producer of the series. Dushku took a moment to tell us more.

How did Dollhouse come about? I read that you and Joss Whedon came up with the idea over
lunch. Is that really what happened?

It is. Joss and I have been buddies since back in the Buffy days, and I was 17. He quickly became a big brother, mentor and ally and we’ve stayed friends over the years. When I was trying to figure out what to do next in my career and what projects I wanted to do I met with Fox and they expressed interest in developing a show together so we worked out a year-long film and television development deal. I called Joss about a week later and asked him to go to lunch and somewhere in the four-hour lunch we came up with the idea for the show.
